Patience Should Not Be Considered Weakness: Rajnath
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hoisted national flag during parade ground to celebrate “Telangana Liberation Day”, a day to celebrate Hyderabad state’s accession to Indian union by being freed from Nizam’s regime. Various other leaders including Union Ministers Gajender Singh Shekhawat, Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay Kumar as well as Party MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders also joined programme.
Rajnath Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to strengthen national security as well as the economy but reiterated India’s stiff opposition to terrorism.
In his address to the event, Rajnath Singh talked about India's counter-operation against terrorism, and further mentioned, “You would have seen ‘Operation Sindoor’ about last month. They came up to Pahalgam with tourists asking them their religion and killed our brothers, but our forces did not see their religion and killed them for what they did."
Repudiating charges that India’s ceasefire with Pakistan was a result of outside powers’ interference, Minister for Defence asserted, "Some people say Indian-Pakistani ceasefire has happened because others came into play but let me make it absolutely clear that it has not happened because anybody interfered."
He again asserted his statement that counter-terrorism operation has not been concluded. "'Operation Sindoor’ is still continuing. There are some who say they have stopped it but let me make it absolutely clear that nobody has stopped it."
Revanth Ventilates Telangana Achievements
The State Government of Telangana also celebrates September 17, a day when Hyderabad State acceded to the Indian Union in 1948, as Telangana Praja Palana Day or Day of People’s Governance.
Addressing a function held as part of celebrations of Telangana Prajapalana Day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that people indeed write history with struggle. He declared that the Telangana movement should be "written with golden letters" into the pages of world history. He asked the youngsters to strengthen their stand with higher education and made some major changes to the education sector. "We're equally emphasizing sports as much as education and a holistic state education policy is to be released shortly," he declared.
Revanth Reddy showed his respect to the central role played by women in the guerrilla war with a special mention to the roles played by Chakali Ailamma, Mallu Swarajyam, and Arutla Kamaladevi. He pledged to establish additional women's marts to support sales of Dwacra products.
Background to September 17 Event
Hyderabad was assimilated into the Indian Union on September 17, 1948, as part of a “police action” via Operation Polo. Whereas some refer to it as liberation from Nizam domination, others refer to it as a merger into the Indian Union. On September 17, 1948, the then-state of Hyderabad merged with the Indian Union. As such, across all government offices, urban local authorities, and gram panchayats, the national flag will be hoisted on September 17. In 2023, the then-BRS government opted to celebrate September 17 as National Integration Day. However, the Union government opted to celebrate it as Hyderabad Liberation Day with a decision being communicated via a gazette notification by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra's Chief Minister hoisted the national flag. Various programs have been scheduled to mark the Liberation Day. At their districts (erstwhile Nizam ruled Marathwada districts), Guardian Ministers also unfurled the national flags. Various programs also have been scheduled to take students to the sacrifices made by martyrs in the war to liberate.
