The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has nominated writer and activist Sudha Murty as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Murty is the chairman of the Infosys Foundation and the wife of Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sudha Murty on her election to the Rajya Sabha. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the decision in a tweet and wrote, “Sudha ji has made outstanding contributions in various fields, including the social, humanitarian, and education sectors. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha will be a testimony to Nari Shakti. Her presence will be a testament to the strength and skill of women in shaping the future of the nation.”

73-year-old Sudha Murty was awarded the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2023. Sudha Murty, wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, is the mother-in-law of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

In 2011, she received the R. K. Narayana Award for outstanding contribution to Kannada literature.Sudha Murty was born in 1950 in Shiggaon, in the Haveri district of north Karnataka. His father, R.H. Kulkarni, was a surgeon, and his mother, Vimala Kulkarni, was a teacher. Sudha Murty completed her engineering degree from BVB College. She started her career as an engineer at the TELCO. The company is now known as Tata Motors. At the moment, Sudha Murty chairperson of the Infosys Foundation.She is a prolific writer in English and Kannada.

She was married to Narayana Murthy in 1978. Their daughter, Akshata Murty, is the wife of British Prime Minister Sunak. Sudha Murthy has built more than 60,000 libraries in Karnataka. 

The President of India proposes twelve candidates for the Rajya Sabha. Generally, the President nominates people who have made significant contributions in the fields of literature, arts, science, sports, or social service. President Droupadi Murmu has nominated Sudha Murty as a member of the Rajya Sabha for her contribution to social service and education.
