The Supreme Court had earlier heard the R.G. Kar case on October 15. The doctors alleged that the state government was recruiting civic volunteers for hospital security under the 'Rattirer Sathi' scheme. Meanwhile, Sanjay, who has been arrested in the R.G. Kar case, is also a civic volunteer. In the last hearing of the case, the bench of the Chief Justice had directed the court to submit details of civic recruitment, working procedures, and salaries in the form of an affidavit. It also made it clear that civic appointments cannot be made in places like hospitals and schools. Following the court's order, the state government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. But in the end, the case was delayed.
The hearing comes at a time when a trial court has framed charges against Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder case of a young doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sanjay has been booked under sections 64 (rape), 66, and 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita. The trial will begin on November 11. Hearings will be held every day.
