Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention on January 9, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The biennial event, running from January 8-10, honors the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora to the nation's development. This year, the theme of the convention is "Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat," reflecting the central role the global Indian community plays in India’s vision for a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi emphasized India’s growing position on the global stage, stating that the country is not only youthful but also filled with skilled talent, ready to meet the world’s demands. He reiterated the government's commitment to equipping Indian youth with skills as they venture abroad, positioning India as a hub of skilled professionals. He also underscored the importance of documenting the diaspora’s journey and achievements.
In a vibrant showcase of India’s rich heritage, PM Modi inaugurated four exhibitions, celebrating both cultural and technological advancements. One exhibition, titled Vishwaroop Ram, explored the universal legacy of the Ramayana, while another focused on the Indian diaspora’s contributions to global technology. A third exhibition traced the evolution of the Indian diaspora from Mandvi, Gujarat, to Muscat, Oman, and the final one highlighted Odisha’s cultural treasures, from Odissi dance to Pattachitra paintings.
Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, also addressed the diaspora, inviting them to participate in the state’s growth journey. He highlighted Odisha's growing investment opportunities, particularly in industries like IT, agro-processing, and renewable energy, positioning the state as a hub for global businesses. Majhi further described Odisha as a land of diverse cultures, rich in historical significance, and emphasized its commitment to building world-class infrastructure.
The convention serves as a platform for the Indian diaspora to engage in meaningful dialogue about their role in India’s future, strengthening ties with the homeland and contributing to its progress.
