The Nair Service Society (NSS), a leading organization representing Kerala's influential Nair community, has urged the Central Government to establish a National Commission dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by economically weaker sections (EWS) in forward communities. The demand was made during the annual Mannam Jayanthi celebration at Perunna, commemorating the birth anniversary of NSS founder Mannathu Padmanabhan.

NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair presented the resolution, emphasizing that the proposed commission should function similarly to the existing SC/ST, backward, and minority commissions at the national level. The resolution also suggested forming a National EWS Development Corporation to facilitate government-sponsored projects and provide low-interest loans. This initiative aims to promote financial empowerment, social progress, and educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged individuals in forward communities.

Highlighting its long-standing stance, the NSS reiterated its opposition to caste-based reservation and caste census. The organization advocates for economic criteria as the basis for reservation policies, replacing the current caste-based system.

The NSS called on the union government to act promptly on this matter to ensure the upliftment and empowerment of the economically weaker sections in forward communities. The resolution reflects the organization’s ongoing efforts to address socioeconomic disparities while fostering equal opportunities.
