Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has granted permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment case, official sources confirmed on Saturday. The sanction follows three petitions filed by advocate-activist T J Abraham, Pradeep, and Snehamayi Krishna.

The controversy centers around allegations that Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, received valuable plots of land in exchange for property on which the MUDA developed a layout. Questions have been raised about how Parvathi acquired ownership of the land involved.

On July 26, the Governor issued a showcause notice to Siddaramaiah, requiring him to respond within seven days to the allegations and explain why prosecution should not be allowed. However, the Karnataka government strongly advised the Governor on August 1 to withdraw the notice, accusing him of "gross misuse of the Constitutional Office."

The Governor's decision to grant prosecution sanction could lead to legal action against Siddaramaiah, potentially involving investigation agencies or court subpoenas. The move is also expected to escalate tensions between the state government and the Governor's office.
