Gaza’s Water Crisis: Children are First Victims of WAR

Israel-Palestine war intensifies and Gaza children face acute drinking water shortage and sanitation crisis. As per the ground report - water and power shortages put children’s health at risk. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that the Gaza Strip is facing serious water and sanitation problems as a result of Israel's offensive.

UNICEF lamented that Israel's attacks have allowed people into the Gaza Strip with only 1.5 to 2 liters per day, far less than the recommended requirements for survival. Children who do not have access to proper sanitation and drinking water are at a higher risk of contracting various diseases.

Various statistics show that half of the victims of Israeli attacks are children. They need food, water and shelter. Gaza's water and sanitation systems are in a state of disarray due to Israel's repeated attacks. According to the UNICEF, people need 3 liters of water per day for survival and at least 15 liters per day for food, cooking and other needs.

UNICEF is concerned that people in Gaza are now forced to use water that is too salty and polluted. People are falling sick due to contamination of drinking water.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) health issues are on rise. Between November 29 and December 10, cases of diarrhea alone increased by 66 percent in children under five and 55 percent in the rest of the world. Cases of meningitis, chickenpox, jaundice and respiratory infections have also been on the rise. The WHO said it was unable to provide accurate figures due to a lack of complete and accurate data.
