GAIL (India) Ltd, a state-run natural gas company, is gearing up to launch its inaugural green hydrogen project in central India by April, according to three company insiders. The project, located at the Vijaipur complex in Madhya Pradesh state, will feature a 10-megawatt proton exchange membrane electrolyser imported from Canada.

Following the initial setup phase, during which any potential challenges will be addressed, production is expected to commence within a month's time, stated one of the sources. As they are not authorized to speak to the media, the sources preferred to remain anonymous.

Once operational, the unit is projected to yield approximately 4.3 metric tons of hydrogen daily, boasting a purity level of about 99.99 percent by volume. Furthermore, renewable power sources will be utilized in the production process.

India has set ambitious goals for itself, aiming to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 million tons annually by 2030. Despite repeated requests, GAIL's communication office has yet to respond to inquiries from Reuters regarding the project.
