A tragic incident occurred in South Goa where a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered at an under-construction site on Friday. The police reported that the incident happened around 3 am when a local hospital informed them about the girl's demise.
According to SP South Goa Sunita Sawant, the postmortem confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted and then suffocated to death. The police have taken 15-20 labourers working at the construction site as suspects due to their proximity to the incident.
An FIR has been filed against the accused under IPC sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder), and relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Goa Children’s Act. The victim's parents, who are migrant labourers from West Bengal, are devastated by the tragedy.
The police officer, speaking on anonymity, mentioned that there were visible injury marks on the girl's face and neck. An inquest was conducted, and the body was sent for postmortem examination.
The father of the victim narrated that his daughter was with him while he was on duty on Friday night. He asked her to return home around 12.15 am, where her mother was sleeping. When he returned home at 2 am, he discovered that his daughter was missing. The family later found her lifeless body behind a building near their house and rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
