During religious processions in Hyderabad, DJs and firecrackers have been prohibited by City Police Commissioner. The decision was taken following a worrying rise in the usage of DJ sound systems and firecrackers during the religious processions and marches.

As per the communiqué released by the City Police, it was noted that using DJ systems can be detrimental to the human body and results in considerable noise pollution.

The increase in chances of participants exhibiting uncontrolled behaviour during religious processions is also heightened by the use of DJ systems, potentially resulting in law and order issues, according to the notification. Furthermore, the use of firecrackers in heavily populated procession routes in Hyderabad poses a substantial risk to the hundreds or thousands of people present. Despite the prohibition of DJs during religious processions in Hyderabad, sound systems are allowed with limitations on sound levels.

Daytime spans from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., whereas night-time covers the period from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A quiet area is described as a zone that includes at least 100 meters surrounding hospitals, schools, and courts. The message warned that not following the rules for DJ systems and firecrackers will lead to legal consequences under several laws in Hyderabad.

The notification stated, “Violation of the above instructions regarding DJ systems and firecrackers will result in penal action under the provisions of the Hyderabad City Police Act, 1348 Fasli, BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita), Environmental Protection Act, 1986, Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules, 2000, and Hyderabad City Loudspeakers (Regulation of Use and Licensing) Rules, 1963.”
