Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court on Saturday. He said, "To ensure the safety of women, there is a need for speedy justice of atrocities against women. Violence against women and protection of children has become a cause of concern in society.”

On this day, the Prime Minister said, 'There are several laws in the country that provide strict punishment for violence against women and ensure the safety of women. The Fast Track Court Act was passed in 2019. District Monitoring Committees play an important role in this regard. We need to ensure that these committees carry out stricter monitoring. We have to be active in this type of crime so that the guilty can be punished quickly.'

The Prime Minister said that in the last 10 years, several steps have been taken to improve the infrastructure of the judicial system and ensure speedy justice.

Nearly 21 days have passed since the CBI took over the probe into the RG Kar Hospital case, but only one person has been arrested so far. The central agency is yet to take any legal action against former principal Sandip Ghosh despite multiple questioning and polygraph tests on him. Even the interrogation of Sanjay Roy, who was arrested by the Kolkata Police, did not yield any new information. People from all walks of life, from the protesting doctors to the protesters, have erupted in protest by questioning this delay.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a stringent law against rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital after the CBI handed over the probe to the CBI. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has also responded to the letter.
