The flyover project, which cost Rs 481 crore to decongest the congested Ukkadam-Athupalam route in Coimbatore, has reached its final stage. Officials expressed anticipation that the bridge would open next month.Ukkadam, an important commercial area, can be found in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu's second largest city.

The Ukkadam area in Coimbatore, like Dinagar in Chennai, features a large number of commercial establishments. The Coimbatore railway station is located near Ukkadam. The Collector's office shares space with the Municipal Police Commissioner's office.Ukkadam is also the road connecting Coimbatore and Kerala, hence it is heavily congested.

The construction of a flyover on the Ukkadam-Athupalam route, which has the most traffic congestion in Coimbatore, began in 2018 at a cost of Rs 481 crore. The first phase saw the completion of the flyover from Ukkadam to Karambukadai. Subsequently, the second phase of flyover construction on the Athupalam-Polachi and Palakkad roads began. For the past six years, work has been underway on the Phase 2 flyover and land acquisition. The flyover construction, which began during the recession, is nearing completion.

How Ukkadam Flyover: Coimbatore The Ukkadam flyover is created so that motorists arriving from the Athupalam region can board it and exit at Selvapuram bypass road to reach Oppanakkara Road.

The flyover is four lanes from Karumbukkady to Ukkadam junction, and two lanes at the landing near Oppanakkara Road. Panneer Selvam, Supervising Engineer for the Highways Department, examined the work yesterday, as the second phase flyover project neared completion.According to officials, the Ukkadam flyover is 92 percent complete.

The remaining work is now being completed. According to them, the Ukkadam overpass would likely be available for vehicular traffic by the end of next month. The people has expressed satisfaction that if the Ukkadam flyover is completed by the end of next month or in July, traffic congestion will be substantially eased.
