The Centre announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET examination on Wednesday following preliminary indications of compromised exam integrity. The Ministry of Education emphasized the need for transparency and sanctity in the examination process, stating, **UGC-NET June 2024 Exam Cancelled Amid Integrity Concerns**

The Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 examination due to preliminary indications of compromised exam integrity. "The UGC-NET June 2024 Examination is cancelled," the ministry stated, adding that a fresh examination will be conducted, with details to be shared separately. The matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation.

UGC chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar noted that approximately 81% of the over 11.21 lakh registered candidates had appeared for the NET exam in 317 cities across the country. The UGC-NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for the posts of 'Assistant Professor' and 'Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor' in Indian universities and colleges. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, the exam is held twice a year, in June and December. The NTA, with the concurrence of the UGC, conducts the UGC NET in 83 subjects across selected cities nationwide.

Awarding the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or Eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the candidate's aggregate performance in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. This development comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET exam, which faces allegations of irregularities. Regarding the NEET exam, the Ministry of Education stated, "The issue related to grace marks has been fully addressed. Concerning alleged irregularities in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar Police.
