The central government will bear the medical expenses of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for those injured in road accidents. This was announced by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently. He said the project started on a trial basis in March last year. Now it is being launched across the country. Under this new scheme, the central government will bear the cost of treatment of those injured in car accidents on any road in the country. Not only this, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of those killed in road accidents.

Millions of people are killed in road accidents across the country every year. The number of injured is even higher. This initiative of the government is to stand by the families of the injured in this serious situation. This cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh will be available for the first 7 days after the accident. The National Health Authority (NHA), police, hospitals, and state health departments will jointly look into the matter. Injured in road accidents can apply online for medical facilities. The injured will have to send all the accident reports online on the portal of the Transport Department. After this, the injured will be given medical facilities.

The central government had started the project on a trial basis in Chandigarh on March 15 last year. Later, it was introduced in 6 more states of the country. The main objective of this scheme is to ensure that money does not come in the way of the treatment of the injured person. And quickly so that the treatment process can be started. Recently, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari addressed the media on this issue. In addition to giving details about this project, he appealed to the people to be careful about road safety.

The Union Minister said that in 2024, 1.80 lakh people died in road accidents in the country. Of these, 30,000 people died due to lack of helmets. The second most worrying thing is that 66 percent of the accident victims are between the ages of 18 and 34. Tens of thousands of children and teenagers have died due to lack of awareness about the basic rules on the streets. Time to cross the road out of school and college.
