CBI summons Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai in the Mahua Moitra case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai for questioning in connection with a corruption case against Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra. Last month, Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after the Ethics Committee submitted its report on the alleged "cash for query." She was accused by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey of taking cash and expensive gifts from industrialist Darshan Hiranandani as bribes to raise questions against Gautam Adani and the Modi government in Parliament. Jai Anant Dehadrai wrote a letter to him. The BJP MP had made this allegation on the basis of that letter. The TMC leader said the Supreme Court lawyer was her former friend. The CBI has summoned him to record his statement on January 25.

On December 29, last year, Jai Anant Dehadrai told the CBI that Moitra had confessed to giving her Parliament login and password details to industrialist Darshan Hiranandani. She, however, claimed that she did not take any cash from the industrialist. He also alleged that Mahua Moitra has good relations with senior officers of the West Bengal Police. Using that contact, the Trinamool leader is monitoring him. He claimed that the people he is communicating with, or those who are communicating with him, are being monitored. Their call records are being checked. In early October, Jai Anant Dehadrai presented before the Lok Sabha's ethics committee all the evidence against Moitra.

Earlier, Mahua Moitra had filed a police complaint against Jai Anant Dehadrai for trespassing, theft, sending obscene messages, and misbehaviour. Mahua claimed that Jai Anant made these allegations due to the bitterness that developed between the two after their relationship ended.

In an affidavit, industrialist Darshan Hiranandani said Moitra had shared her email ID as a Trinamool MP. He used to send various pieces of information to Mahua's email. Using that information, the Trinamool leader used to ask questions in Parliament. Mahua Moitra also admitted to sharing the login details of her parliamentary emails. However, she claimed that she did not know that all this information could not be shared with anyone. There is no specific rule regarding this. The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, however, said his email was also used from abroad. The security of the country could have been jeopardised as Maitra shared the login details of her parliamentary emails.
