Kerala BJP has accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of attempting to establish Kerala as a separate nation. This follows the appointment of IAS officer K. Vasuki as "foreign secretary" for matters of external cooperation. BJP President K. Surendran criticized the move as an overreach and violation of the Union list of the Constitution, which reserves foreign affairs for the central government.
Surendran expressed his concerns on social media, questioning if Vijayan aims to position Kerala as an independent entity. He further warned that such actions could lead to demands for a separate consulate and a foreign affairs minister for Kerala.
The contentious appointment was formalized in a government order dated July 15, which stated that Vasuki would take on additional responsibilities related to external cooperation. The order emphasized that the officer would coordinate all related activities.
Surendran urged the Chief Minister to revoke the appointment, arguing it goes against national interests and sets a dangerous precedent. The BJP's strong reaction underscores the controversy surrounding the LDF government's latest administrative decision and its implications for federal governance in India.
