Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal did not get relief from the Delhi High Court. The CBI's arrest in the excise case is not illegal in any way, the court said. The Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's case challenging the CBI's arrest and custody.

During Monday's hearing, a bench headed by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna observed that there were "legitimate" reasons for the CBI's arrest. Therefore, the action of the central investigating agency can never be called illegal. The Delhi High Court also disposed of Kejriwal's bail plea. A bench headed by Justice Neena Bansal suggested that the trial court move.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the excise scam. During the Lok Sabha elections, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail for a few days. Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar Jail on June 2, after his term ended. Kejriwal's permanent bail plea was granted by Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on June 20. Judge Nyay Bindu granted bail to the Delhi chief minister on a bond of Rs 1 lakh on Thursday after the ED sought deferment of Kejriwal's bail by 48 hours. The ED had challenged the verdict in the Delhi High Court.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in an excise case. A division bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta passed the order on July 12. Though Kejriwal has been granted bail in the ED case, he will remain in Tihar Jail in connection with the CBI case.
