Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Tezpur, in Assm on Friday evening and participated in the cleanliness drive (Swachata Sewa) at the historic Mahabhairab Temple.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarmah, the Chief Minister of Assam, and several other ministers attended the event. During his visit to the Mahabhairab Temple, the Union Minister offered prayers to Lord Shiva.

Earlier, the Union Home Minister travelled to Meghalaya to attend the 71st plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on Friday. He stated that the last ten years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government have been the most significant decade for the Northeast, with the most development occurring in the 75 years since independence.

Amit Shah also stated that the Northeastern region of India, which was struggling with various ethnic, linguistic, border, and extremist group-related issues, has seen the beginning of a new and lasting era of peace in the last ten years.
