Tamil Nadu BJP activist and movie actress Kasturi Shankar has stirred huge controversy with her recent remarks about the historical context of Telugu people in Tamil Nadu. Her sensational comments have caused a big uproar in the South. Kasturi, while speaking in the BJP meeting, made very sarcastic comments, and claimed that Telugu speaking people in Tamil Nadu are the descendants of women prostitutes who served kings in the past.
A case has been registered in Chennai against Kasthuri.
Kasthuri thinks that the Telugus are the ones who came to serve the women of Antapura (women's quarters or royal harem of a ruler’s palace) in Tamil Nadu 300 years ago during the time of the Chola and Pallava kings. In her bold statement, it is said that those who came are now talking big words that they are a Tamil race.
Kasturi's comments became controversial in cine industry as well as political circles. Telugu organizations and the public are criticizing her for her rabid statements. She is seen as someone who lacks historical understanding and is eager to create controversy to stay in the spotlight. Telugu people demand that she retract her comments and apologize or face serious legal consequences.
Kasthuri came down due to political pressures and strong opposition on social media. She took back her words. At one stage, she tries to defend herself, and accused the ruling DMK leaders that they are deliberately distorting her remarks to magnify the controversy.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Egmore Police Station in Chennai on Kasturi. Telugu Associations of Tamil Nadu gave complaint and the police registered a case under four sections.
