A total of 889 candidates from eight States and Union Territories (UTs) will contest in phase six of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday. This includes 20 candidates for the postponed election in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ECI reported that 1,978 nominations were filed for 57 parliamentary constituencies across seven States/UTs, excluding the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. Polling for the fourth phase is scheduled for May 13, while phase six will take place on May 25.

Uttar Pradesh leads with the highest number of nominations at 470 from 14 constituencies, followed by Haryana with 370 nominations from 10 constituencies. The Ranchi constituency in Jharkhand received the maximum nominations at 70, closely followed by North East Delhi with 69 nominations.

After scrutinizing all nominations, the ECI found 900 to be valid. In the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, 28 nominations were filed, with 21 found valid.

The last date for filing nominations for phase six, excluding Anantnag-Rajouri, was May 6. Additionally, the ECI has instructed all States and UTs to ensure the timely issuance of ‘No Dues certificates’ for intending candidates to include in their affidavits.

The Lok Sabha elections are being conducted in seven phases, concluding on June 1.This detailed update on the election process highlights the extensive preparations and the large number of candidates participating, reflecting the democratic engagement across the country.
