Karimnagar silver filigree made it to the list of exquisite gifts to be presented to the A-listers attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant wedding in July, 2024.

Around four centuries old Telangana’s silver filigree is one of the rare arts in the country. The wonderful products invented by the artisans with silver thread have spread the fame of the erstwhile Karimnagar district in all directions. Silver filigree once again became the topic of discussion during the wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of business magnate Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani.

The Silver Filigree of Karimnagar Handicrafts Welfare Society (SIFKA) has received a large order for high-value artifacts for this big fat wedding ceremony.  An order for around 400 high-value artifacts, including jewelry boxes, purses, trays, fruit bowls, and more for the lavish wedding has been bagged by the SIFKA.

Legacy of Karimnagar Filigree Silverlining:

Silver filigree is a delicate and intricate form of metalwork often used in jewelry and decorative art. It involves twisting thin threads of precious metals such as gold or silver and soldering them together to create elaborate patterns and designs. The resulting pieces can be quite ornate, featuring intricate lace-like motifs. Known for its detailed craftsmanship, filigree work is often used to create items like earrings, necklaces, brooches, and decorative objects. This art form has a long history and is practiced in many cultures around the world. In India, silver filigree art is notably practiced in the Cuttack region of Odisha and in Karimnagar region of Telangana.

Art Spanning Eight Generations….:

The silver filigree of Karimnagar was awarded a GI tag in 2007. Thousands of artists spanning seven to eight generations have created artworks inspired by nature and life. Around 150 families in Karimnagar still practice this ancient craft.

Ashoka Chakra Silver Badges for G-20 Delegates:

During the G20 summit, silver filigree badges were presented to the guests by the Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As many as 200 coat brooches in the shape of Ashoka Chakra made by the artisans of silver filigree adorned coats of foreign delegates at the G-20 Summit in New Delhi recently.

Silver filigree artisans, who won fame and a string of awards for their intricate craftsmanship, are elated over the opportunity to display their works of art before the international delegates. They found pride of place at the crafts expo being held in connection with the G-20 Summit showcasing the exquisite craft on the international platform.

In many occasions, the Telangana government has also gifted Karimnagar's artistic work to dignitaries and guests at various important events, showcasing the craftsmanship of the region.

Anant & Radhika's 2nd Pre-wedding Bash:

It is known that Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding will be held in July, 2024. Present pre-wedding festivities began in Italy on May 28. It ends in Switzerland on June 1. From May 28 to 30, the second phase of the pre-wedding ceremony is being held on the sea in the largest luxury cruise ship for three days. Celebrations will be held in the presence of around 800 distinguished guests on this cruise ship which will travel a distance of 4380 kilometers from Italy to Southern France.

In the month of March, the Ambani family hosted the first pre-wedding ceremony to around 1200 VVIP guests. That was held in Jamnagar, Gujarat in a grand manner.

Silver Filigree to Add Lustre to Mega Wedding:

Ambani family is planning to give valuable and ever memorable gifts for those who attend the wedding in July. Among them are the Karimnagar silver filigree artifacts. Artisan and filigree maestro Arroju Ashok, president of the Silver Filigree of Karimnagar Handicrafts Welfare Society (SIFKA) said they have received orders for nearly 400 items for the delivery of these precious filigree gifts.

He said that this 400-year-old ancient art will be encouraged. Nearly 150 families in Karimnagar region depend on this age-old craft.
