Indian External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Russia. During his visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia next year. It is to be noted that the External Affairs Minister met the Russian president in Kremlin on Wednesday.

During the meet, Putin told Jaishankar that he would be happy to host his dear friend and India's Prime Minister Modi in Russia soon.

As part of his five-day visit to Russia, Jaishankar had earlier met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Attending a joint press conference with Lavrov at the end of the talks, Jaishankar said he believes that Prime Minister Modi and President Putin would meet for the annual summit next year.

The summit between the Prime Minister of India and the President of Russia is the highest institutional dialogue mechanism for the strategic partnership between the two sides. In an X post, Jaishankar said he was happy to meet President Vladimir Putin.

It should be mentioned that India and Russia have alternated hosting 21 annual summits thus far. December 2021 saw the last summit take place in New Delhi.

On the other hand Putin said trade transactions between Russia and India are on the rise, especially in the areas of crude oil and high technology. He pointed out that transactions are growing simultaneously and at a steady pace for the second consecutive year as well.
