On October 7, Palestinian militants in the Gaza strip carried out an unprecedented infiltration into southern Israel, firing thousands of rockets into the country. The ruling Hamas militant group has announced the beginning of a new crackdown against Israel. Amid a terrorist attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared a war between Israel and Palestine, declaring a mass army mobilization.

"Citizens of Israel, we are at war. This is not an operation, not an escalation - this is war. And we will win. Hamas will pay an unprecedented price," said Netanyahu in a video message.  

The Hamas group fired over 5,000 rockets pierced through the sky towards Israel and loud sires blared on this holiday evening. Visuals from Israel showed cars passing by roads were fired and even Paragliders were used in the attack. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant while condemning the attack said that Hamas has made a grave mistake by launching a war against Israel.

Mohammad Deif, elusive leader of the Hamas’ military wing launched ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Strom’ and called on Palestinians to join the fight. Several hours after the terrorist attack began; Hamas militants were fighting gunbattles inside Israel communities that shook the country.

The National Rescue Service of Israel has said that at least 22 people have been killed in the attack, making it one of the deadliest attacks in Israel since years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted about the incident on X and said: “Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour,”

The Indian Embassy has asked Indian diaspora living in Israel to remain vigilant and observe all safety protocols. While releasing an advisory, it said: “Please exercise caution, avid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters,"
