The much-anticipated sequel to Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor's horror comedy, "Stree," is set to hit theaters on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day. The makers, Maddock Films, announced the new release date on Thursday, advancing it by two weeks from its original August 31 schedule.
Producer Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films took to social media platform X to share the news, stating, "Iss swatantrata diwas, aa rahi hai #Stree fir se! "Watch #Stree2 in theaters this Independence Day, August 15, 2024."
"Stree 2" is expected to face stiff competition at the box office, releasing alongside other major films like Akshay Kumar's "Khel Khel Mein," John Abraham's "Vedaa," and Allu Arjun's "Pushpa 2: The Rule."
The teaser for "Stree 2" has generated significant buzz, having been released exclusively in theaters alongside the recent release of "Munjya," rather than debuting on social media. This unconventional approach has heightened anticipation among fans eager to revisit the horror-comedy universe crafted by director Amar Kaushik.
The original "Stree," which also featured Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, was a major hit in 2018. Set in the small town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, the film drew inspiration from the urban legend of “Nale Ba,” which gained popularity in Karnataka during the 1990s.
Produced by Vijan and Jio Studios, "Stree 2" continues Maddock Films' successful foray into horror-comedy, complementing titles like "Roohi," "Bhediya," and the aforementioned "Munjya." Fans of the genre are eagerly awaiting the sequel's release and the promised blend of thrills and humor.
