Controversial director Ram Gopal Varma's upcoming political drama & propaganda movie 'Vyooham' has landed in legal trouble with the Telangana High Court ordering to constitute a committee to give clearance. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) General Secretary Nara Lokesh has filed a petition in the High Court against the film's release. He also seeks cancellation of Censor certificate.
High Court had earlier stayed the film's release till the January 11. The unit of the film went in appeal to the division bench challenging the single bench order. High Court directed the single bench to take a quick decision on the release of the film. All the records pertaining to the censor board members were placed before the single bench. As part of the argument, the TDP filed a petition against the Censor Board for issuing a certificate to the film without considering the report submitted by the review committee after it was screened before the Censor Board Review Committee.
In his petition, Nara Lokesh said that Director Ram Gopal Varma did not like TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu and cine star cum politician Pawan Kalyan. Lokesh made the Central & State Boards of Film Certification, Director Ram Gopal Varma, film producing company - Ramadutha Creations, and the producer Dasari Kiran as respondents in the case.
As per the Lokesh’s counsel – ‘Vyooham’ trailer showed that Chandrababu Naidu received kickbacks. It was also brought to the notice of the bench that the characters of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Rosaiah were portrayed in a negative light. However, the counsel for the Censor Board argued that the certificate was issued after examining everything in accordance with the rules. The committee consists of five members. And then the chairman looked at it. Later, the court was told that the opinion of 9 members of the revision committee was recorded in person and a certificate was issued to them.
After the hearing the versions of the counsels of the both sides, the High Court decided to form a committee as no one else had seen the film except the members of the Censor Board. Earlier, in a similar case about the controversial movie, the Bombay High Court had set up a three-member committee to look into the matter. The committee included a retired Supreme Court judge and a retired High Court judge watched the movie before giving the final verdict. Now in the case of ‘Vyooham’, the Telangana High Court has also constituted a committee in this regard. The court directed the committee to submit its report to the High Court by January 12.
