Kangana Ranaut's much-anticipated solo directorial debut, "Emergency," will not be releasing on its planned date of September 6. The film, where Ranaut portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has faced a significant setback after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) revoked its certificate following multiple petitions against it.

In a recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Ranaut expressed her disappointment, stating, "An Emergency has been imposed on my film too. It's a very hopeless state. I'm quite disappointed by our country and whatever the circumstances are." She believes her film is being unfairly targeted despite similar events being portrayed in previous films like Madhur Bhandarkar's "Indu Sarkar" and Meghna Gulzar's "Sam Bahadur."

Ranaut further emphasized her commitment to releasing the film, even if it means battling it out in court. She expressed her determination to release an uncut version, highlighting that she has made the film with self-respect, and that the CBFC has been unable to find any contentious content. “I can't just alter history to appease sensibilities," she added.

The film has been embroiled in controversies, including objections from Sikh groups, and has yet to receive a green light from the CBFC. Ranaut also pointed out the disparity in censorship, questioning why nationalist films face hurdles while other content on OTT platforms is allowed with minimal restrictions. She contended, “While some narratives enjoy unrestricted freedom, those of us aiming to depict historical truths about our nation face significant censorship challenges.”

Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, "Emergency" depicts one of the most turbulent periods in Indian history. Despite the delays, Ranaut remains resolute in her vision to bring this historical drama to audiences.
