Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has reacted to the Kapoor family's recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they invited him to attend the Raj Kapoor Film Festival. The festival is being organized to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor. While Kangana welcomed this initiative, she also emphasized the need for guidance and direction in the Indian film industry.
Speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak, Kangana addressed her thoughts on the meeting and the film industry’s challenges. She noted that PM Modi's engagement with the industry is a significant step, as it helps the industry feel seen and valued. However, she pointed out that the lack of leadership has left the industry “orphaned” and vulnerable to exploitation.
Kangana expressed concerns over the vulnerability of people in the film industry. She remarked, “Individuals here can easily be swayed by money. Be it involvement with questionable agendas or attending gangster parties, they often become targets for drugs and hawala activities. This happens because they have no proper guidance.”
The Emergency actor stated that meeting the Prime Minister creates a sense of accountability and pride for the film industry. She added, “It is important for people to know that the PM watches over our work and thinks about us. This makes a positive impact.”
Reflecting on her own situation, Kangana revealed that she has also requested an audience with PM Modi but is still awaiting a response. She expressed hope that her request will be granted soon.
Kangana concluded by underscoring the film industry's contribution to the economy and its potential as a powerful cultural tool. She said, “We generate significant revenue, but we don’t receive the same respect as other industries. This engagement is a positive move towards changing that.”
On the work front, Kangana will next be seen in her directorial Emergency, where she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, featuring Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, and Mahima Chaudhary, is set to release in 2025.
The Kapoor family's meeting with PM Modi, attended by Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and others, has sparked renewed discussions on the film industry’s evolving relationship with leadership.
