Born on June 4, 1947, Ashok Saraf is known for his work in Marathi and Hindi films, including iconic Maratha dramas like Hamidabaichi Kothi, Darling Darling and many others.

The actor told media persons, “I am extremely happy to receive this award that puts me in the august league of achievers like (former winner) P L Deshpande and Lata Mangeshkar. It is an acknowledgement that the state has recognized my 50 years of hard work in the industry.”

The award includes a medal, citation, and Rs 25 lakh. The state government increased the honorarium or prize money for awardees from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh last year.
