Sarma asks for the National Games in Assam

On Monday (February 19), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his willingness to host the next national games citing the state's proud heritage of hosting major sporting events, while stressing his government's commitment to fulfilling the prime minister's ambitions, a vision investing heavily in the development of sports.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 4th Khelo India University Games Ashtalakshmi at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, Assam, Chief Minister Sarma said, "Our state has a proud heritage of hosting major sporting events, including national sporting events. 2007 Games 12. South Asian Games 2016, FIFA U -17 World Cup, AIBA Youth World Boxing for Women, Premier Badminton League, National School Games, Khelo India Youth Games This KIUG edition adds another chapter to the rich sports heritage of the state”.

Chief Minister Sarma said that Assam has a great sports heritage and believes that more and more players from the state will bring laurels to the country in the coming years and contribute to the sports history of the country.

Assam hosted the National Games for the first time in 2007, but I request the central government to allow Assam to host the National Games in 2025 or 2026, Chief Minister Sarma added.
