A case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, which has been causing a stir in the states of Maharashtra and West Bengal, has been registered in Telangana. A woman in Hyderabad has tested positive for GBS.

The first case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome has been registered in state capital. Doctors have diagnosed a woman from Siddipet mandal with GBS. The victim is undergoing treatment on a ventilator in a private hospital. It is known that more than 130 GBS cases, two deaths have already been registered in neighbouring Maharashtra.

The number of cases spread in the Pune area of Maharashtra in the last few days is a cause for concern in Telangana.

Initial Symptoms

GBS syndrome is a disorder where the immune system of the body targets the nerves. It may lead to weakness, numbness, or paralysis.

Typically, weakness and tingling sensations in the hands and feet are the initial symptoms. These feelings can rapidly extend and potentially result in paralysis. In its most severe manifestation, Guillain-Barre syndrome represents a medical crisis. The majority of individuals with the condition require care in a hospital.

Doctors have revealed that people with weak immune systems due to viral infections and bacteria are more likely to be affected by GBS. This is a rare condition in which the immune system, which responds to an infection in the body, mistakenly attacks the nerves.

General Symptoms

Those infected with GBS feel numb all over. Symptoms like fever and vomiting are seen. Along with these, diarrhea, abdominal pain, sudden feeling of lethargy, and muscle weakness are the symptoms of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

This is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted through water and contaminated food. However, medical experts and officials say that it is not contagious and people should not worry and can be cured with treatment.
