Google has officially launched its Gemini AI app in India, supporting nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Initially branded as Bard, the AI chatbot was rebranded to Gemini in February, followed by the release of a separate app. However, Indian users will need to wait around four months for the standalone app, enhancing the convenience of using the chatbot.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced the launch of the Gemini app in India via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Pichai stated, “Exciting news! "Today, we’re introducing the Gemini mobile app in India, which supports English and nine Indian languages. We're expanding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, adding new features, and integrating Gemini into Google Messages in English."

Additionally, Google is integrating Gemini into Google Messages in India. This feature will enable users to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, and plan events directly from the Messages app, although it will initially be available in English and on select devices only.

Earlier this month, Google revealed that the Gemini feature in Google Messages would be limited to certain Pixel and flagship Samsung devices.

Moreover, Google is introducing the Gemini 1.5 Pro language model in India. This advanced model features a 1 million token window, capable of handling extensive input, including long documents and hours of video content.

Users can access Gemini by either downloading the app or enabling it through Google Assistant. On select phones, access can be initiated by corner swiping or pressing the power button, while iOS users can start using Gemini directly from the Google app by tapping the Gemini toggle.
