The United Naga Council (UNC) in Manipur has imposed an immediate seven-year ban on Congress MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur, S. Kho John, and Allyson Abonmai. This action prevents them from participating in public forums or holding leadership roles within the Naga community.

On June 13, the UNC issued a notification explaining the ban was due to their deliberate defiance and lack of respect towards the UNC’s authority during the recent Lok Sabha elections. They were also accused of trying to undermine the unity and collective position of the Naga people. The notification, signed by H. James Hau, the UNC’s information and publicity secretary, instructed all affiliated units and the Naga populace to comply with the resolution.

Arthur, representing the Tangkhul community, placed second in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, while John (Poumai) and Abonmai (Liangmai) ran as independent candidates, finishing third and fourth, respectively. There was criticism on social media about the exclusion of Kachui Timothy Zimik, who lost to Arthur by 85,418 votes, from the ban, suggesting that the action might have been influenced by the NPF's failure to retain the seat.

The UNC, however, clarified that the decision was based on a resolution adopted during an emergency assembly on May 29, a week before the election results were announced. The Outer Manipur election, covering 28 Assembly segments, was held in two phases on April 19 and April 26. The campaign period was marked by violence, including attacks on the Congress candidate allegedly by Naga extremists, amidst a boycott by Kuki-Zo organizations protesting the government's handling of ethnic conflicts.
