Tummidihetti Barrage Row: Telangana Seeks Centres’ Intervention

Revanth urges MoJS to convince Maharashtra for Tummidihetti barrage at 152 Meters FRL. Also seeks ECs for Palamuru-Rangareddy, Sita Rama, and Gourelli projects

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on Tuesday, pushing for the Centre to step in and help resolve several long-standing inter-state irrigation issues. His main focus: getting Maharashtra’s approval for the proposed Tummidihetti (Tummidihatti) barrage. State Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy joined him for the meeting. They pressed the Union Minister to help Telangana and Maharashtra quickly finalize an agreement. Telangana wants to set up the barrage on the Godavari (Pranahita) River with a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 152 metres.

Seeking Gravity-Based Water Flow

Revanth Reddy told Patil that Telangana had already submitted all technical details and project data Maharashtra requested. He stressed that setting the barrage at 152 metres matters because it lets Telangana divert Pranahita water to the Yellampalli reservoir via gravity, cutting down on power use and saving the state considerable costs.

Fast-Tracking Environmental Clearances

The Telangana delegation didn’t stop there—they asked the Ministry of Jal Shakti to fast-track statutory and environmental clearances for other big projects on the Krishna and Godavari basins, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Sita Rama Project, and Gouravelli Project.

Throughout the discussion, Revanth Reddy called on the Centre to play an active role and get Telangana and Maharashtra to the table to finally resolve the barrage dispute. Union Minister Patil assured them that the Centre would review the projects and push for a timely solution.
