Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey announced that steps will be taken to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. During a meeting with the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and the United Naga Council (UNC). Governor Uikey reassured the delegation that discussions have been held with President of India, FM  Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.  She emphasized that the central government is aware of the situation in Manipur and that the NRC's implementation is a priority.

Governor Uikey assured the representatives that the NRC would be enacted soon to safeguard the interests of the people of Manipur. The delegation, led by COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro and UNC president NG Lorho, submitted a memorandum advocating for the NRC with 1951 as the base year. They stressed the urgency of implementing the NRC to establish a scientific method for identifying illegal immigrants and preventing further infiltration.

The delegation also highlighted the need to halt random village recognition without proper verification and called for an investigation into the abnormal increase of villages in specific districts. They urged corrective measures to address these issues, ensuring a more controlled and secure demographic environment in the state.

Governor Uikey's commitment to the NRC reflects a significant step towards addressing the concerns of Manipur's citizens and maintaining the integrity of the state's demographic structure.
