Kerala Congress Rift Deepens as Adoor Prakash Meets Kharge

UDF convener Adoor Prakash has taken his differences with Kerala CM V D Satheesan to the Congress high command, days after accusing him of making key decisions without consultation

UDF convener Adoor Prakash has escalated his differences with Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan to the Congress high command, days after publicly raising concerns over what he described as unilateral decision-making.

Prakash met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Monday and submitted a written complaint. The document is understood to raise concerns over coordination between the state government and the UDF, while also listing several decisions allegedly taken by Satheesan without consultation with the alliance.

Prakash did not disclose the contents of the complaint when questioned by the media, but confirmed that he had submitted it.

He also met AICC general secretary Deepa Dasmunsi and is expected to meet Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. KPCC president Sunny Joseph also met Kharge. Satheesan is scheduled to be in Delhi on Tuesday for the GST Council meeting, bringing several key Kerala Congress leaders together in the national capital.

The developments could pave the way for the Congress central leadership to intervene and mediate in the growing dispute. AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal had earlier indicated that the party leadership would work to resolve the differences.

Dasmunsi sought to downplay the significance of Prakash's Delhi visit, maintaining that the move should not be viewed as a complaint against the Chief Minister.

Prakash had come under criticism from senior Congress leaders after publicly questioning Satheesan's handling of government-UDF coordination at a press conference held at the KPCC headquarters last week.

The internal dispute has gained further attention following public remarks by Prakash and Mahila Congress president Jebi Mather. Sunny Joseph on Monday cautioned party leaders against airing internal differences publicly, saying such statements could further damage the party.
