Kerala Congress Removes Staffer Over CJI-Targeting Post

Kerala Congress removed the official managing its X account after a controversial post targeting CJI Surya Kant triggered criticism.

A controversial post targeting Chief Justice of India Surya Kant from the official Congress Keralam X account sparked widespread criticism on Monday before it was deleted. Following the backlash, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) removed the individual responsible for managing the account.

KPCC president Sunny Joseph clarified that the post was published without the knowledge or approval of the state party leadership. He said the committee would investigate the circumstances surrounding its publication.

Joseph reiterated that the Congress respected the impartiality of the judiciary, stressing that social media content contradicting this position did not represent the KPCC leadership's views.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the Congress over the incident, sharing a screenshot of the deleted post and accusing the party of undermining constitutional institutions. He alleged that the Congress was attempting to weaken India's democratic framework and called for patriotic citizens to unite against forces he considered hostile to the country.

The controversy unfolds amid escalating political tensions between the Congress and the BJP over the judiciary and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have repeatedly alleged electoral manipulation, while the party has sought judicial intervention over concerns related to the voter-list revision process.
