Himanta kick his campaign with his iconic cycling rally

Elections in Assam will take place in three phases. The first round of voting in Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, and Kaziranga is scheduled for April 19. The Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched his campaign on Monday from Majuli, the river island district in Upper Assam, as the state prepares for the Lok Sabha elections.

The Majuli seat has great political significance because it was once the Assembly seat for former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Sonowal is now running from the parliamentary seat of Dibrugarh against Assam Jatiya Parishad chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

Grassroots workers of BJP participated whole-heartedly in the campaign's inaugural cycle rally in Majuli, which Sarma christened the Vijay Sankalp Yatra. Sarma plans to visit over 40 assembly segments in Upper Assam during the course of the next 15 days.

Majuli is a part of the Jorhat parliamentary constituency, where prominent Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is contesting the incumbent MP Tapan Gogoi.
