BJP Kerala Boosts Christian Outreach with New District Leadership

The BJP has taken significant steps to strengthen its outreach to the Christian community in Kerala by appointing members from the community to leadership roles.

The BJP has taken significant steps to strengthen its outreach to the Christian community in Kerala by appointing members from the community to leadership roles. Among the 27 newly announced district presidents, three Christian leaders—Justin Jacob (Thrissur City), Roy Chacko (Kottayam East), and V C Varghese (Idukki South)—were named in districts with a substantial Christian population.

The appointments are part of the BJP's state-level reorganisation, which also saw districts being split into smaller units, each with its own leadership to enhance grassroots activities. BJP State President K Surendran announced the changes in Thrissur on Monday, emphasizing the party’s focus on inclusivity and representation.

Four women leaders were also named as district presidents: M L Aswani (Kasaragod), Deepa Puzhakkal (Malappuram West), Nivedida Subrahmanian (Thrissur North), and Raji Prasad (Kollam East). Highlighting the party’s commitment to empowering women, Surendran noted that 30% of BJP booth committees are led by women, which, he claimed, is unmatched by other political parties in the state.

“In this reorganisation, we ensured representation for women, minorities, and SC/ST segments. Four women have been given district president roles. We’ve also appointed three Christian leaders to key positions. Can Congress or CPM match this level of inclusivity?” he said.

Surendran added that 14 individuals from the Christian community and 32 from SC/ST communities have been included in BJP’s constituency committees. He highlighted that 34 out of 269 constituency committees are led by women, which he described as a groundbreaking move.

The restructuring aligns with the BJP’s efforts to deepen its influence among minorities and women, aiming to create a broader appeal and strengthen its organisational base in Kerala’s political landscape.
