For the last few decades, there has been a ban on government employees from joining the activities of the RSS. Now that ban has been lifted. The ban was imposed in 1966. Then 58 years have passed. The ban was recently lifted by the Modi government. As a result, government employees can now join RSS activities.

On July 9, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification reversing the government guidelines of 1966. Government employees and officials at all levels were allowed to join RSS programs. In 1966, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government banned participation in RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami programs. His term was extended in 1980.

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya on Monday claimed that the six-decade-old ban was unconstitutional. RSS publicity chief Sunil Ambekar said, "For the last 99 years, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been working tirelessly for the development and reconstruction of society. Various sanctions were imposed on us at different times on baseless allegations. ’

Next year is the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). That is why the government ban seems to have been lifted. However, the ban was limited to the pen. The decision was taken in 1966 for his alleged involvement in some objectionable activities against the RSS.

Due to the ban for so long, government employees could not become members of this Hindu nationalist organization, even if they wished. Recently, a judge of the Calcutta High Court, on his retirement, said that he was a member of the RSS before joining the service. He will join the organization again after retirement.
