Kerala Court orders probe into CM’s remarks

The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has ordered an investigation into Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's comments following an attack on Youth Congress (YC) workers last year. The inquiry, mandated under Section 202(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), stems from a complaint filed by Mohammed Shiyas, President of the Ernakulam District Congress Committee (DCC).

The incident in question occurred in November 2023, when YC activists were assaulted by members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) after they waved black flags at the Chief Minister’s convoy during the Nava Kerala Sadas, a government outreach program. In response, Pinarayi defended the DYFI, stating that they were acting to prevent further harm to the YC workers.

Shiyas argued that the Chief Minister's comments encouraged criminal activity, prompting him to seek legal action. After considering the complaint on October 3, the court instructed the Ernakulam Central police to conduct an inquiry and submit their findings by December 7.

Police officials have stated they are awaiting further instructions from the court to begin their investigation. Once the inquiry is complete, the court will decide whether a First Information Report (FIR) should be registered against Vijayan based on the results of the probe.
