Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, on Friday withdrew her divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court, bringing the proceedings to an end for now.

Sangeetha appeared via video conference and told Judge D. Sujatha that she had decided to withdraw from the legal proceedings. Vijay’s counsel raised no objection to the withdrawal after receiving notice. The court allowed the petition to be withdrawn while permitting Sangeetha to initiate fresh proceedings in the future, if necessary.

Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition in February, seeking dissolution of the marriage, permanent alimony and permission to continue living at their Neelankarai residence. She had alleged that Vijay’s alleged relationship with a female co-star had caused her significant emotional distress and affected their marriage.

She also stated that attempts at reconciliation between 2021 and 2025, involving both personal discussions and legal intervention, had failed because of Vijay’s continued association with the co-star, which she viewed as a breach of marital trust.

Speculation about the couple’s separation had intensified after Sangeetha stopped attending several of Vijay’s film-related events. The divorce case also became a major topic of discussion during the State election campaign, with social media users divided over the issue.

Vijay had previously urged his party supporters not to discuss the matter, maintaining that it was a private family issue. Despite this, the absence of Sangeetha and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha, from major TVK events continued to attract public attention.
