Amazon India has announced updates to its seller fee structure, marking the first revision in nearly a year. Effective from April 7, Amazon.in will implement changes to various fees, including referral fees, closing fees, and weight handling fees, as well as other ancillary charges for sellers using its platform.

The revisions are part of Amazon's regular bi-annual fee adjustment process, with this update being the first in almost a year. The company aims to offer competitive rates that support seller profitability and ensure a thriving marketplace.

According to an Amazon India spokesperson, the adjustments in seller fees are essential for sustaining a robust marketplace and driving the digital transformation of small and medium-sized businesses in India. These changes are aligned with Amazon's commitment to becoming one of the most preferred platforms for selling in India and providing sellers with efficient growth opportunities.

Amazon stated that the fee revisions consider various macroeconomic factors such as inflation, interest rates, and operational costs. These adjustments are also in line with prevailing industry fee trends.

As part of the revisions, referral fees will decrease in certain categories like apparel, bedsheets, cushion covers, and dinnerware. Conversely, referral fees will increase in categories such as business and scientific supplies, chimneys, laptop sleeves and bags, and tires.

Additionally, the closing fee will see a Rs 3 increase for products with an average selling price exceeding Rs 1000. The weight handling fee will also rise by Rs 2, reflecting the inflationary increase in shipping costs.

These adjustments aim to ensure fairness and sustainability in the marketplace while accommodating changes in operational expenses and industry standards.
