The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the remarks made by a spokesperson from the German foreign ministry, stating that they amounted to interference in India's internal affairs.

In response to this, the Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, George Enzweiler, was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs to register an official protest. Following the meeting, the MEA released a statement denouncing the comments as an intrusion into India's judicial process and a challenge to the independence of its judiciary.

India emphasized that it is a robust democracy governed by the rule of law, and like in any legal matter, the law will follow its course in this case as well. The ministry criticized the biased assumptions made by Germany and reiterated that such interference is unwarranted.

Germany's stance was articulated earlier when the German Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that they expected Mr. Kejriwal to receive a fair trial, emphasizing that India is a democratic country. The spokesperson emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of an independent judiciary and democracy, asserting Mr. Kejriwal's right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Mr. Kejriwal's arrest is related to the Delhi liquor policy scam case, where he is accused by the central agency of being involved as a "conspirator." The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that the policy, which has since been scrapped, offered exorbitantly high profit margins for both retailers and wholesalers.
