BJP’s Big Bet on Vijay? “Dy CM” Offer Sparks Tamil Nadu Power Play

For Tamil Nadu's 2026 elections, the BJP is negotiating a mega alliance with AIADMK and actor Vijay's TVK, offering him 80 seats and Deputy CM.

As per the media reports- the BJP is "Seriously Exploring" alliance with Vijay's TVK in Tamil Nadu. It is looking to recreate its "Andhra Pradesh Success Formula" in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. In Andhra, the BJP successfully united Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP to defeat the YSRCP. Now, they are attempting a similar "Mega Alliance" in Tamil Nadu to challenge the DMK-Congress front, aiming to make it a three-cornered contest against the ruling alliance and new regional forces.

“Power Trio” under NDA Umbrella

Media reports suggest that the BJP wants to bring together two major forces to challenge the ruling DMK. Mainly the Thalapathi Vijay (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam). This superstar expected to bring massive youth following and star power to the coalition. Next one is - Palanisamy (AIADMK), as a strong hold politician expected to provide a strong grassroots network across the state. Then, BJP automatically offer national support, resources, and strategic planning from Delhi.

What is on the Table?

“Grand Alliance”, to make this happen, the BJP has reportedly offered a very attractive deal to Vijay. 80 Assembly Seats for his party (TVK) to contest and the Deputy Chief Minister post for Vijay if the alliance wins. Recent news reports suggest that Pawan Kalyan (now Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh) is acting as the bridge. Just as he convinced different parties to join hands in his own state, he is reportedly talking to Vijay to explain the benefits of a united front. His recent interviews on Tamil channels are seen as a move to build a positive atmosphere for this alliance.

Why this is a Positive Move for the BJP?

The BJP has struggled to enter Tamil Nadu for decades. Partnering with a beloved icon like Vijay gives them instant "local" credibility and consolidation of votes. In Tamil Nadu, the anti-government vote usually splits between many parties. If Vijay and AIADMK join the BJP, the opposition becomes a single, unstoppable force—exactly like what happened in Andhra Pradesh.

Vijay’s fans are mostly young voters. Combining this with the BJP’s vision for development creates a "New Tamil Nadu" narrative that appeals to the next generation. While Vijay’s party leaders officially say they want to go alone, the "behind-the-scenes" talks are reportedly in the final stages. If this alliance becomes a reality, it will be the biggest challenge the DMK has faced in years.
