Andhra Pradesh recorded 12 COVID-19 cases and four deaths between June 26 and July 16, health officials said. Still, they stressed that these numbers don’t signal a major comeback for the virus in the state. The new cases popped up in just a few spots. Health experts describe this situation as sporadic, not as a full-scale outbreak. Right now, officials are watching things closely and stepping up both testing and surveillance.
All four patients who succumbed to the illness had severe underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, pneumonia, and advanced kidney disease. Health officials emphasized that the deaths were driven by these severe comorbidities rather than the viral infection alone. Three of the four deaths were recorded in the Kadapa district, while one death occurred in Kakinada.
Among the victims were a 46-year-old man from Kadapa who suffered from severe respiratory distress, a 52-year-old man from Rajampeta with bilateral kidney disease, and a 66-year-old man with severe pneumonia and hypertension.
No Signs of a New Wave: Health Experts
According to the media reports, doctors see these recent cases as an isolated cluster, not the start of a new surge. Experts point out a few reasons we’re still seeing infections—waning immunity, the possibility of virus mutations, or simply more testing picking up what might have gone unnoticed before. The state Health Department clarified that the cases are isolated and sporadic, meaning there is no evidence of a wider outbreak or localized cluster.
