The Kamakhya temple, one of the 51 shakti peethas, will have its doors locked for three nights during Ambubachi Mela starts from Saturday. On the grounds of the temple, thousands of sadhu babas have already gathered to engage in tantric practice.

In order to increase their "energy" by performing rituals at the fair, sadhus and devotees from East to west and North to South, regions of the nation have travelled there.

Every year, the Kamakhya Temple hosts the Ambubachi Mela, an annual Hindu fair. The yearly menstrual cycle of the goddess Maa Kamakhya is celebrated during this festival. The Kamakhya Temple Management Committee and the Assam government worked together to plan the celebrations. One of India's 51 Shaktipeeths, Kamakhya Temple is perched on Nilachal Hills.

With a focus on the celebration of the divine feminine power of the goddess, the Ambubachi Mela customs have their roots in Tantric traditions. While the temple is closed, followers undertake fasts and engage in meditation in an effort to purify their souls.

Along with intricate prayers, fruits, flowers, and traditional treats are offered to the Devi. Priests perform ornate rituals to prepare the temple's interior for reopening.Reopening the temple is also a significant event because it symbolizes the goddess' divine power being renewed.

The Ambubachi tradition is connected to numerous rituals. Widows and monks observe these days with particular rituals. On these few days, it is also forbidden to perform any auspicious work. In addition, during Ambubachi, agricultural work is stopped. Brahmacharis, sadhus, sannyasis, yogis, and widows abstain from eating anything that has been prepared over fire on these days. They must consume fruits in keeping with the rituals.
