Significance of US Deputy Secretary of State’s India visit

US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma was on his recent visit to India met a section of Indian ministers in New Delhi.

US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma was on a recent visit to India. As part of his visit, Verma met a section of Indian ministers in New Delhi. It aims to deepen the US-India global partnership and ensure a free Indo-Pacific region.

Verma, deputy secretary in the department of management and resources, is a high-ranking Indian-American in the Department of External Affairs. Verma, who served as the US Ambassador to India, was on an official visit to India from February 19–21.

In Washington, US Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Matthew Miller said on Thursday that Verma met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwabra, Defence Secretary Giridhar Armne, and Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri in New Delhi.

Verma’s meeting with ministers and high officials discussed the opportunity to cooperate in the US and strengthen people-to-people contacts to ensure a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Miller said US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma also met Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. During the meeting, he discussed ways to strengthen trade and economic ties between the US and India.

It is to be noted that Verma is on a six-day official visit to India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives to strengthen bilateral ties with various countries. Which reaffirms America's commitment to a free, secure, and prosperous region.
