PM Modi to Visit Russia and Austria Next Week

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia and Austria. This is his second foreign visit after taking the oath as Prime Minister of the country for the third time. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria after 41 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia and Austria from July 8 to 10. He will be in Russia on July 8 and 9. He will attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. He will then leave for Austria on July 9. Return to the country the next day.

Both of Modi's visits are considered significant. This is his second foreign visit after taking the oath as Prime Minister of the country for the third time. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria after 41 years. On the other hand, the world will also be watching Modi's visit to Russia. This will be the Prime Minister's first visit to Russia since the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia war in February 2022. In March, Moscow had invited Modi to visit the country. He last visited Russia in 2019. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made a five-day visit to Moscow in December 2023.

The Russian army entered Ukraine in February 2022. The war has been going on ever since. India has not directly condemned the war that has been going on for more than two years. However, New Delhi has repeatedly said that the two countries should resolve the issue through talks at the diplomatic level. Meanwhile, India has become a bigger trading partner for Russia since 2022. Especially when it comes to buying crude oil.

The last time Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Austria was in 1983. Austria is not a member of NATO. Vienna, like New Delhi, has maintained diplomatic relations with Russia amid the war with Ukraine. According to experts, the war in Ukraine can also be discussed between India and Austria. Together, the two countries can find a way to restore peace. There are 35 Indian technology companies in Austria. The Prime Minister's visit aims to enhance cooperation with Austria in the areas of start-ups, manufacturing, and information technology in India. Modi will hold a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
