North Korea claims ongoing South Korean-U.S. military exercises are a plan to invade their country. They threatened to take unspecified "responsible" military actions in response.

The North's statement follows the start of South Korean-U.S. annual computer-simulated command post training and various field exercises that will last 11 days. This year's drills include 48 field exercises, double the number from last year.

According to state media, North Korea's Defense Ministry condemns the U.S. and South Korea's military drills, accusing them of openly threatening a sovereign state and attempting invasion.

A spokesperson from the North's ministry stated that their military will monitor the actions of their enemies and conduct responsible military activities to maintain security on the Korean Peninsula.

The spokesperson did not specify North Korea's actions, but observers believe they may conduct missile tests or take other measures to strengthen their military capabilities.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry stated that its drills with the United States are routine defensive training. They warned of a strong response if North Korea provokes them during the drills.

North Korea views their rivals' large-scale military exercises as preparations for invasion, although South Korean and U.S. officials have repeatedly denied any intentions of attacking the North. Previously, North Korea responded to South Korean-U.S. exercises by launching missiles into the sea.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff stated last week that this year's drills with the United States aim to counter North Korean nuclear threats and will include live-fire exercises, bombing, air assaults, and missile interceptions.

Concerns about North Korea's nuclear program have grown in recent years due to their frequent missile tests and threats of preemptive nuclear strikes. In response, the U.S. and South Korea have increased military exercises and deployed powerful military assets like aircraft carriers and nuclear-capable bombers.
